Itinerary: The Southern Traverse (The Most Scenic Route)

Day 01: The Journey to Seram

  • Pickup from Ambon Airport (Pattimura).
  • Fast boat transfer from Tulehu Port to Masohi (Seram Island).
  • 4WD journey to Piliana Village, the “Village of Butterflies.”
  • Overnight at a local homestay and cultural greeting with the village elders.

Day 02: Into the Rainforest (Piliana – Camp 2)

  • Starting at nearly sea level, the trek begins through lush tropical jungles.
  • Crossing the crystal-clear Yahe River.
  • Camping at Camp 2, surrounded by the sounds of endemic Maluku birds.

Day 03: The Limestone Ascent (Camp 2 – Isilali)

  • A steep climb through mossy forests and the starting of the karst (limestone) formations.
  • Arrive at Isilali, a high-altitude savanna with unique flora.
  • Night camp under the stars with temperatures dropping significantly.

Day 04: The Roof of Maluku (Summit Day)

  • 03:00 AM: Summit push through sharp limestone rocks.
  • 06:00 AM: Summit of Binaiya (3,027m). Witness the 360-degree view of the Banda Sea and the endless emerald forests of Manusela.
  • Descend back to Camp 3 or Camp 2.

Day 05: The Long Descent

  • Trekking back down to Piliana Village.
  • A celebratory traditional meal with the local community.
  • Farewell to the butterflies of Piliana.

Day 06: Back to Civilization

  • Transfer back to Masohi, then via fast boat to Ambon.
  • Final transfer to Ambon Airport. End of Expedition.
